Abstract: Given the reality of Christianity secularization, it is much reflected about the insertion of the Catholic Church within this contemporary reality. The Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo, based on the philosophical presuppositions of Nietzsche and Heidegger, as well as on his own religious experience, approaches secularization as another face of Christianity, having the incarnation of the Word as a central point in this understanding. Based on this, conceptualizing weak thinking, Vattimo shows the need to overcome the violence caused by metaphysics and how overcoming raises a social-ethical transformation based on Christian charity. Thus, the objective of this work is to analyse the works of Vattimo Belief and After Christianity. Besides the commentators, we were seeking to analyze the author’s perception of the secularization process, the resumption of religiosity, and the current role of Christianity.

Keywords: Secularization; Nihilism; Christianity; Kenosis.
